5 Mass Shooting Incidents And How Concealed Carriers Stopped Them

July 13, 2016

For the past few decades, we have witnessed different tragedies. Mass shootings from different areas caused the loss of lives for numerous people. Sometimes, it is really hard to look for the best solution for these problems. But what if we are not aware that a solution already existed and that it worked for many of these instances?

We are talking about concealed carrying here. And yes, it worked and was able to stop mass shootings a few times. In this article, we will discuss five situations that happened recently where concealed carriers successfully defended the lives of people. For all these situations, there is a simple truth that we can all learn; a well-equipped and law-abiding concealed carrier can best respond to a mass shooting.

SITUATION 1: Shootings at Winnemucca Bar

A 48-year-old regular costumer came to Winnemucca Bar which is 160 miles from Reno, Nevada in May 2008. Unexpectedly, a man named Ernesto Villagomez, 30, came into the bar and fired his gun at almost 300 people inside the bar. Two people were shot and, before Villagomez could continue shooting, the concealed carrier reached for his pistol and shot him. The Humboldt County District Attorney was able to determine that the case was a homicide so the concealed carrier was released. The two victims were given medical care and fully recovered  from the incident.

SITUATION 2: Uber Driver Shoots A Gunman In Chicago

Earlier this year, an Uber driver in Chicago, witnessed Everardo Custodio, 22, firing his gun towards a group of people in Logan Square. The Uber driver, 47, got his concealed carry gun and shot Custodio a few times to stop him from hitting the bystanders. The Chicago police then arrived and saw that Custodio had gunshot wounds obtained from the driver. The driver was released and no charges were filed against him. No one was injured in this incident.

SITUATION 3: Philly Barbershop Was Attacked

A man in a barbershop fired his gun at the customers and barbers and another concealed carrier came to the rescue. It was reported that there was an argument prior to the firing of the gun. During the incident, there were children inside the barbershop. When the concealed carrier heard the gunshots, he rushed towards the man and hit him in the chest with his gun. No one got hurt in this incident.

SITUATION 4: Gunman Shoots Two Men in A Bar, Goes Back Inside And Was Taken By A Concealed Carrier

In a case where one man died and another was critically injured, a Luzerne gunman was stopped by a concealed carrier inside a bar. In September 2012, William Allabaugh was spotted with a gun and was asked to leave the Plymouth Bar. Instead of leaving, William shot a man, went outside, and shot another man. As shown in the surveillance video, he returned inside the bar but there was a concealed carrier there who took him.

Newswatch 16 reported: ““The video footage and the evidence reveals that Mr. Allabaugh had turned around and was reapproaching the bar. Mr. Kiter [the concealed carrier] then acted, taking him down. We believe that it could have been much worse that night,” [Luzerne County A.D.A. Jarrett] Ferentino said.”

SITUATION 5: A Gunman Was Supposed To Do Something Harmful To Churchgoers

Jesse Gates, 38, came to the South Side Free Will Baptist Church in Boiling Springs in March 2012 carrying a shotgun. The pastor’s grandson named Aaron Guyton who also happens to be a valid concealed carrier, saw that Gates’ vehicle while was parked as he was returning to the parking lot. He also saw him bringing out a shotgun from the back of his vehicle. He then informed the other members of the church about this. The members of the church locked the doors and hid while Aaron watched for Gates. According to Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright: “He locked the door, and they were calling 911 at the same time. He didn’t draw his weapon or make any actions towards this gentleman until he forced the issue.”

The incident ended with Gates being taken down by Aaron without any gunshots. No one was injured and Gates and his sister were charged with aggravated assault.

The five situations mentioned above are just a few examples of the successful use of concealed carry handguns and the proper mindset for carriers.

We all know that we cannot predict when and where a threat will occur, but we must equip ourselves with the tools that can save our lives and of others as well in case this happens.
