National Carry AcademyHow to Ship Ammunition Legally?
August 17, 2016
When you have some ammunition leftover from the firing range and you want to bring it home,
what can you do? Leftover ammunition can be brought on the plane with you when you fly home. Simply put them in a box. Better if the box is where the ammo came from when you bought them. Remember to declare it upon checking in your baggage along with your gun if you have one. You should be fine. This is a walk in the park.
If you don’t want to put it in your checked bag or the ammunition is more than 11 pounds, here are your options.
You can ship them via FedEx or UPS but never via US postal service. You’ll be in a lot of trouble if you do.
This is how it works if you ship it through UPS
- Must not be more than 66 pounds
- It will be ground shipping
- A special shipping label must be attached to the box. The label must be larger than a credit card. ( see the label below )
- Bring you package directly to a shipping center, not the regular UPS shop.
It is easy and hassle free to ship your ammo via UPS. FedEx procedures are pretty similar.
Leftover ammunition? No problem, you know what to do.
