National Carry AcademyConcealed Carriers Can Prevent Mass Shootings
August 1, 2016
There are so many incidents of mass shootings that concealed carriers were able to stop, and it is sad to know that not everyone is aware of how useful guns can be for law-abiding carriers when the situation occurs.
In this article, we will discuss the instances where mass shootings are prevented by armed citizens which anti-gun people claim did not happen. Read them below and see how those people prevented the shootings.
- Earlier in 2015, there was a gunman named Everardo Custodio who fired gunshots on a crowd of people in Chicago. An Uber driver who was on the scene and who happens to be a concealed carry permit holder came to the rescue and shot the attacker.
- It was also in early 2015 when a barbershop in Philadelphia was attacked by a gunman named Warren Edwards after an argument. Another man who is a licensed concealed carrier shot Warren and saved the people inside the barbershop. It was reported that there are even children inside.
- In 2014, Richard Plotts killed a psychiatric caseworker with a gunshot and wounded Lee Silverman, his psychiatrist. Silverman who is a concealed carrier was able to gun him down and stop him from killing other people. “If the doctor did not have a firearm, (and) the doctor did not utilize the firearm, he’d be dead today, and I believe that other people in that facility would also be dead,” said the Delaware County D.A. Jack Whelan. Police Chief Donald Molineux even “believe the doctor saved lives.” When Plotts was arrested by the police, there are still 39 rounds left in his possession.
- In 2012, a man named William Allabaugh was not allowed to enter a bar in Plymouth, Pennsylvania after finding out that he is carrying a gun. William approached the manager of the bar and Mark Ktytor who is also a licensed concealed carrier. William pointed his gun to Ktytor but he was quick enough to shoot Allabaugh and stop him from such violence. “The video footage and the evidence reveals that Mr. Allabaugh had turned around and was reapproaching the bar. Mr. Ktytor then acted, taking him down. We believe that it could have been much worse that night,” Luzerne County A.D.A. Jarrett Ferentino said regarding the incident.
- In 2012, Jesse Gates came to his church with his shotgun in his person and Aaron Guyton, the grandson of the pastor who is a licensed concealed carrier had his gun and pointed it to Gates, while the other members of the church got the firearm from him. In this situation, it was not clear whether Gates has a plan of shooting people. He might just have brought his shotgun to the church to gain attention from the people.
- In 2008, Ernesto Villagomez shot two people and injured two others who were in a bar in Winnemucca, Nevada where there are almost 300 people inside. A patron of the bar who was also carrying a concealed gun and has his carry permit shot him before he can proceed further with the shooting.
- In 2007, Matthew Murray left four people dead after he shot them at a church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jeanne Assam, a member of the church, a discharged police officer and is also a volunteer security guard in the church shot him a few times. It was later found out that Murray was carrying more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition when he came to the church.
- In 1998, Andrew Wurst, 14, killed a teacher and injured a few students at a school dance in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. After committing the crime, he left the dance hall with the gun probably to attack more people. But then, the owner of the dance hall whose house is just next door confronted him and shot to stop him.
- In 1997, Luke Woodham, 16, killed his mother with a bludgeon at home, and killed two students and wounded seven more at the school he attends to. Before he leaves the school, Joel Myrick, the Assistant Principal who went to his car to get his handgun stopped him. There are some sources that say Woodham planned on going to Pearl Junior High School to continue with the shooting, but there are no other articles found to support this.
