A new Washington Post/ABC News poll shows that the gun debate is on the forefront of American’s minds. The survey discovered that 46% of Americans say that new laws focused on reducing crime should be the primary focus while 47% stated that it is more important to defend and protect the right to own firearms.

Republicans and rural Americans were the driving force behind the increase in interest in Gun Rights protections. Over the past two years, support in rural areas has jumped from 46 to 61 percent and while support among republicans grew 13% to 71%.

Overall, a vast majority of American’s, including myself, agree that gun violence in this country is a problem. It is an issue that needs to be addressed and taken care of. I wish that we could make it through a whole year without a single homicide.

Unfortunately, we live in reality. That will never happen. There are ways that we can attempt to stem and reduce crime. You know them. I know them. Unfortunately, those who wish to prevent our natural right to self defense do not.
