A right-handed person usually wears their gun on the inside of their left ankle. This is the preferred location because it is the easiest spot to reach and draw your gun.

Upon drawing your gun, slightly bend your knees. Pull up your pant leg (where the gun is) with your supporting hand. Your favored hand draws the gun. You need to practice these movements until it becomes a reflex or a muscle memory. Practice it with a safe and empty gun.

This is not the most comfortable way to carry a gun, although one can quickly get used to it. But, if you favor comfort in carrying a gun, then you may want to go with a holster, pocket carry or waistband carry.

You don’t want to cut your off blood circulation by tightly wrapping your holster around your ankle. You may want to consider a calf-retention strap. It puts less pressure on your ankle than wrapping the holster around it. A calf-retention strap goes higher up on your leg so it prevents your gun from sliding down to your shoe.

If you drive a lot, ankle carry may be for you.Use a small and light-weight gun when you ankle carry. If you use, say a Glock 17, you may get turned-off by ankle carry and may never consider it again. A good gun to ankle carry is the Ruger LCP and trythe Galco Ankle Lite holster. Holsters are tight when they are new. Remember to leave your gun shoved in it for a couple of days to break it in.
