If you are a concealed carrier, you have no doubt had some awkward moment where being a concealed carrier presented a situation that was uncomfortable or downright embarrassing. Here are a few examples.
- Took my mom to a baseball game last night. First time I’ve been to the stadium since last season. They’ve installed walk-through metal detectors since last time I was there. I had removed my gun and secured it in my vehicle because I know concealed carry isn’t legal in the stadium, but I was still wearing my empty Alien Gear 3.0 holster because removing it in the car is a royal pain in the butt. It set off the metal detector.
“What’s this right here?”
“Thats a holster. There’s no weapon in it.” Lifts shirt to show that it’s empty
“What? Why?”
“It’s a pain to take on and off.”
“Where’s the gun?”
“In my car.”
“Are you sure?”
- My wife and I were in a restaurant and I left the table to use the men’s restroom. There is no place in the restroom to place your gun while sitting on the throne so I left my gun holstered. As I dropped my pants the gun and holster hit the tile floor and I heard a shriek from another stall. I quickly finished my business and as I was leaving the restroom the manager and a security guard approached me and asked me to follow them out. Once outside, I explained I was a concealed carrier and showed them my permit and all was cleared up. But I never forgot the experience.
- Just like the rules state “If you are going to concealed carry, carry daily”. I had to have some work done on my car because the engine was making a whining noise. I took the car I to the dealer’s repair shop and hours later as I was leaning over to look at the engine compartment and inspect the work done, I felt a tap on the should and a voice said “Do you have a permit for that?” As I answered “yes” and turned around, I was looking into the eyes of a local patrolman that the repair shop manager had called when he spotted my firearm.
If you carry concealed regularly, chances are pretty good that you will have an awkward moment. When it happens, remain calm and polite and be ready to show your CCW permit.
